2017 was a marvelous year for reading blogs at the BDN where our growing pool of talent has seen some of the biggest stories on our site. BDN Maine blog network bloggers tackled everything from how to avoid Lyme disease to where to get the best lobster roll and everything in between.

Here are the top blog posts that had our readers talking.

1) Major noreaster to bring blizzard to coastal Maine
Our intrepid weather blogger, Mike Haggett did a tremendous job tracking and reporting major storms across the state. This post from February was hands down the most read blog of the year.

2) Everything you thought you knew about Lyme disease is wrong
This blog generated a storm of comments – both positive and negative – for Sarah Cottrell’s unconventional take on Lyme disease.

3) Stephen King has put a red balloon in his window in Bangor; is Pennywise there?
2017 was the year of Emily Burnham writing about Stephen King and man-oh-man was it a treat to watch! This post creeped out most of Maine. To this day, does anyone actually know who put the red balloon in Mr. King’s window?

4) Four baby squirrels with tails tangled together rescued by Bangor men
This story seemed to be too good to be true; sweet little baby forest creatures stuck in a situation that was both funny and sad. But fear not, they were saved and it made for a mesmerizing story that will leave even the coldest heart melting.

5) Diver recovering ATV in Maine lake recovers something far funnier
Dude. This story is filled with every awesomely bad Maine redneck trope ever and we still can’t stop laughing. But seriously, you shouldn’t drink and drive.

6) How do I delicately tell my wife that she is fat?
Readers couldn’t get enough of Dear Liz telling off a now infamous albeit anonymous husband for daring to ask how to tell his wife that she is fat. Poor guy.

7) How does Weight Watchers work?
With the New Year upon us and resolution lists being made, this post is prime for becoming a popular one for 2018 too. Folks wanted to know, how exactly does Weight Watchers work? Jackie Conn, one of our top bloggers of the year and also Weight Watchers expert gave her readers a tell-all post.

8) Tick researchers found Powassan virus in these Maine towns
Mainers were understandably freaked out when they read in this post that ticks carry a disease far scarier than Lyme. And yes, it can legit kill you within days. Yikes!

Remember this one? Fishermen found a bald eagle swimming in the ocean and it mesmerized the Internet.

10) Inside Portland’s new burger and adult milkshake bar
